Data is the Key - An Introduction
Without trying to sound so academic data is simply a collection of facts about an entity where an entity could be a person, place, event, object, organization or a nation. Humans collect and manipulate data with a view to taking decisions in various sphere of life. For example, a graduating high school student will collect data on some universities and colleges, analyse the data and then take a decision on applying for admission for undergraduate studies while an organization may collect data on its customers and competitors and take decisions on product offerings and prices. In a nutshell, we collect and manipulate or process data everyday for decision making.
The point in question is how data can be managed effectively by an organization to make decisions that position positively. Data needs to be viewed as an asset that can drive business growth profitability. Also for governments, data can be an enabler for improved governance and quality service delivery to the citizens. In every line of the divide, data has a prominent role to play in achieving increased efficiency.
